2022 Legislation Update – New Jersey

Age Discrimination Prohibited

On October 5, 2021, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed legislation (AB 681) amending current law to extend protections against age discrimination by removing a legal exception from the state’s Law Against Discrimination that essentially allowed employers to refuse to “accept for employment or to promote any person over 70 years.” As a result, employers are no longer permitted to refuse to hire or promote someone solely because they are older than 70.
