Massachusetts | PFML Doesn’t Require Benefits Accrual During Leave

On September 13, 2024, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court recently ruled that the Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) law does not require employers to continue employees’ length of service credit, vacation, or sick leave benefit accruals during PFML.

Of course, employers can be more generous than the law requires and allow employees to continue accruing these benefits during PFML if they choose.

Massachusetts | Expands Uses of Earned Sick Time

Beginning November 21, 2024, the Massachusetts earned sick time law will be expanded to cover leave for reproductive losses. Employees will be able to use leave for their own or their spouse’s physical and mental health needs resulting from pregnancy loss, or failed attempts at assisted reproduction, adoption, or surrogacy. The law applies to all employers.
